Re: Court issues injunction barring nurses union strike
In response to a request filed by the California Public Employment Relations Board, the state's labor board responsible for overseeing public sector collective bargaining, a Sacramento Superior Court today (July 20) issued an injunction against the California Nurses Association prohibiting the union and its members from striking University of California facilities.

In deciding to bring the matter to court, PERB issued a formal complaint against the union alleging that CNA was bargaining in bad faith.

"Our position has always been that such strikes are illegal and contradict the duty to negotiate in good faith throughout the entire bargaining process, including impasse proceedings, if necessary," said Howard Pripas, executive director, UC labor relations. "We hope that, in the interests of UC patients and nurses, the union will return to the bargaining table in good faith and with a renewed willingness to accept what we believe are very fair proposals."
