Re: Closure of Photography Services

The digital revolution has made profound changes in many everyday activities of our lives, with music and photography being especially impacted, including services provided by the campus through Photography Services.

More and more campus units, and individual users, who have previously relied on this unit, are now performing their own digital photography and printing because of both ease and economy. The work processed through Photography Services has decreased substantially over the past several years, and the unit has been operating at a deficit.

After consultation with the staff, and continuing evidence that there is not enough on-campus demand to maintain this office, a decision to close this office, effective July 31, has been made. This will be a phased closure; all work-in-process will be completed by this date, and Photography Services staff will assist campus units with referrals to other local photographic services.

Photographers Don Harris and Victor Schiffrin, who have delivered extraordinary service over the years, are supportive of this transition, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors.
