Re: Invitation to Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Convocation

Please join us for UC Santa Cruz's 21st Annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Convocation:

Monday, January 10, 2005, 7 p.m.
Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

The Keynote Speaker will be Reverend Joseph E. Lowery. A colleague of Dr. King's, Reverend Lowery played a pivotal role in shaping the nation's civil rights movement through his lifelong commitment to justice. He was co-founder, along with Martin Luther King, Jr., of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and served as president for 20 years.

This convocation celebrates the life and dream of the late civil rights leader by reaffirming the human ideals of freedom, justice, community, and opportunity. Additionally, the convocation seeks to build partnerships and develop dialogue within the campus community and with the local communities served by the university. The convocation is free of charge and open to the public.

*Campus Shuttles from UCSC to the Civic Auditorium will depart at 6:15, 6:25, and 6:30 p.m. from major campus Metro stops.

For additional information, please contact Beth Nelson in the Special Events Office, 459-1438.

We hope you can join us for this exciting evening with Reverend Lowery.
