Administrative Messages

August 14, 2003

To: Campus Community

From: Patrick L. LeCuyer, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Communications & Technology Services

Re: Power and Computing and Network Outage

To the Campus Community,

As part of the Film and Digital Media renovation of the Communications Building, Physical Plant has scheduled electrical work for the morning of Saturday, 8/16/2003. This work requires that power to the entire building be turned off. Communications and Technology Services (CATS) is leveraging this downtime to relocate networking equipment and computing systems to new Data Center cabinets.

Due to the duration and breadth of this outage, we wanted to broadly alert the campus community so you may plan accordingly. This outage will affect ALL computing systems and network services in the Data Center from 6 to 11 a.m. A detailed list of services affected can be found below.

There may be additional networking or computing system moves on the subsequent weekends of August 23/24 and possibly August 30/31. Associated service interruptions will be limited in scope and CATS will post the details on our website: http://www2.ucsc.edu/cats/sc/help/news/

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause, and appreciate your understanding as we undergo renovation of both our building and Data Center. If you have any questions, you may contact the CATS Information Resource Center at (831)459-HELP or help@ucsc.edu.

Sincerely,

Patrick L. LeCuyer
Assistant Vice Chancellor
