October 9, 2002 To: Campus Community From: M.R.C. Greenwood, Chancellor Re: Passing of Frank BarronDear Colleagues, It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you that Frank X. Barron, one of the campus's most distinguished faculty members, died earlier this week. An internationally renowned figure in the study of creativity and personality, Professor Emeritus Barron was a major contributor to the development of UCSC and its Psychology Department. He came to UCSC in 1969, was a fellow of Porter College, and served as chair of the Psychology Department. His family has prepared an obituary that describes Professor Barron's many accomplishments in his field; it is posted on the campus press release site at: http://www.ucsc.edu/news_events/press_releases/text.asp?pid=214. A memorial mass will take place this Saturday, October 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz. Please join me in remembering Professor Barron and wishing sincere condolences to his wife, his son, his daughters, and his many friends--both on and off this campus.
