Re: Voter Registration Week

The Secretary of State is sponsoring Voter Registration Week, September 30- October 6. Today is Education Day to encourage college and university students to register to vote and to take part in the electoral process. This is an opportune time to remind the entire campus community to participate.

As you know, there is an upcoming election on Tuesday, November 5, of this year. While in no way suggesting HOW you should vote, I do want to encourage all of you that are eligible to vote, to exercise your right to do so. If you are not registered to vote, you have until October 21, 2002, to register.

A Voter Registration Form can be obtained online by visiting the Secretary of State's web site at: http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm, or at numerous locations on campus including McHenry Library, the Colleges, Carriage House, Bay Tree Bookstore, Student Health Center, or by stopping by your local library, post office, or other government office.

If you are already registered to vote, please remember to go to the polls on November 5. With many important statewide ballot initiatives, many local and statewide races, the Governor's race, and local ballot initiatives, it is important that we all become informed and participate. In fact, an online, nonpartisan analysis of each statewide ballot initiative can also be viewed on the Secretary of State's web site. Thank you for your time and consideration.
