Re: Message from Chancellor Greenwood-- Potential War

Dear Colleagues:

As the winter quarter draws to an end, all of us are aware of the potential of war in Iraq. Given the possibility that war may occur in the near future, I have asked staff to review operational plans to ensure safety on campus. In addition, faculty, staff and students are planning opportunities for all of us to come together for productive discussion and reflection.

We also are poised to utilize established vehicles for campus communications. To that end, a new web page has been created to provide information and exchange of opinion and news (http://www.ucsc.edu/news_events/iraq). This site also will be accessible from the campus home page (http://www.ucsc.edu).

In addition, should the situation warrant it, we will activate the campus information hot line, 459-INFO (459-4636), the campus administrative email tree, and provide messages to be aired on KZSC radio 88.1 FM.

Please stay in touch through use of these resources, whether you remain on campus during the spring break or travel away.

Finally, I want to urge again that we listen, speak and act with respect to others, even if we disagree. The issues are complex and opinions are diverse. Therefore, it is essential that we conduct ourselves in accordance with our Principles of Community (http://www.ucsc.edu/administration/principles_community.html).

I wish you a successful completion of the quarter, and, for those of you who will be away for spring break, a refreshing rest.
