March 6, 2002 To: Campus Community From: Kevin M. Browne, Executive Director of Admissions and University Registrar Re: Spring Message from AdmissionsAs you know, spring is a crucial time of year for university-bound high school seniors and college transfer students and their families, since this is the time when they will be deciding where to enroll for fall. To make their decision, these students and their families find it helpful to tour the campuses where the students have been admitted. Last year, demand for tours at our campus was greater than ever. In April and May, 7,139 admitted and prospective students and their families visited the campus through organized tours, more people than had visited the campus in the previous nine months combined. This spring promises to be an even busier tour season. From March 28 through April 11, we will be offering as many as eight to 16 tours a day, as well as several information sessions daily. In addition, Banana Slug Spring Fair (BSSF), the annual campus event for admitted students and their families, will be taking place Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. At BSSF 2001, we had more than 8,000 visitors to the campus. As in the past, the campus will feel some impact from the increased number of visitors this spring. There will be some additional motor traffic caused by tour buses, plus additional foot traffic around campus. Our visitors will be curious about university life and may ask you many questions. Please be patient. Your helpfulness will be a measure of our university community to these students and their families. In addition, if you see individuals or groups of people on campus who look like they are lost, please help them find their way if you can. Try to remember what it was like for you when you were new on campus. Thank you in advance for your patience during this important season
