Re: UC and NASA join to create educational research and development center
I am writing to provide you with a preview of a news conference that is planned
for Wednesday, October 25, at NASA Ames, Moffett Field.
At the news conference, UC President Richard C. Atkinson and NASA Administrator Daniel
Goldin will announce an historic UC/NASA partnership to create a world-class educational
research and development center, focusing on innovation and scientific discovery.
Since the anticipated primary site of activities is the UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley
Center being planned at the proposed NASA Research Park at Moffett Field, this announcement
directly supports the campus's progress toward establishment of that center.
A number of faculty members are attending the news conference, including participants
in academic planning for the proposed center.
A copy of the news release about the joint announcement is posted on the UC
Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Center Web site, where you also will find other announcements
and planning documents.
I am very pleased by the strong support of President Atkinson for this partnership,
and I hope you will join me in recognizing this campus milestone.
