Re: 2002-03 Student Regent applications
One of the most significant leadership opportunities available to UC students
is an appointment to serve as a Regent of the University of California. Although
we have many students with outstanding leadership abilities, there has never been
a student Regent from UC Santa Cruz. Our students deserve consideration, so
I ask for your help in identifying students who may be interested in participating
in this challenging and rewarding experience. If you know a student who has strong
leadership skills and a desire to make a difference, I urge you to contact that individual
and encourage her or him to apply for the student Regent position.
Applications are due no later than February 23, 2001. Interested students
may pick up an application at the Career Center, the Chancellor's Office reception
area, or at any college office. For more information, you may refer to the following:
http://www2.ucsc.edu/careers/jobs/regent.html
The student Regent position requires a two-year commitment of service as a member
on the Board of Regents of the University of California. From the time of appointment
as a student Regent in September 2001, the appointee holds the title "Regent-designate"
and is invited to participate in all meetings, but without a vote. Commencing
July 1, 2002, the student Regent will serve as a full voting member of the UC Board
of Regents.
A candidate for the position of student Regent must be an enrolled undergraduate,
graduate, or professional student in good academic standing for the two-year duration.
Once appointed, the student Regent must resign from all other elected or appointed
positions. A student Regent position is not eligible for reappointment.
University fees/tuition costs and parking fees at the home campuses are waived for
the Regent-designate and the student Regent. Additionally, these positions
will be reimbursed for expenses incurred for attendance at meetings of the Board
and its committees.
Please join me in working toward the goal of making the next student Regent a UC
Santa Cruz student. I encourage you to share this information with as many potential
student candidates as possible.
