Re: Staff Appreciation Day
Dear Campus Colleagues,
I was disappointed to learn that a Staff Depreciation Day is being organized as a
substitute for the annual Staff Appreciation Day. Despite suggestions to the contrary,
the fact is that Staff Appreciation Day has only been postponed, not cancelled.
There are two reasons for this:
- The Staff Advisory Board chair and others recommended that we consider another
time of year for this important celebration.
- The East Field is being refurbished, and is unavailable for our gathering this
fall.
Over the next several months, planning in conjunction with the Staff Advisory
Board will lead to a suitable occasion to celebrate the achievements of staff and
to express appreciation for their hard work and dedication. I have always enjoyed
past events, and I am looking forward to this year's celebration.
In the meantime, I want to underscore that recognition for staff contributions isn't
limited to a single day. As far as I'm concerned, every day is a day to appreciate
UCSC's staff. Without you, UC Santa Cruz couldn't meet our commitments to teaching,
research and service. Thank you, each of you, for all you do.
Cordially yours,
M.R.C. Greenwood
