September 12, 2000 To: Campus Community From: Dean David Kliger, Division of Natural Sciences Re: Appointment of assistant deans I am pleased to announce that permanent Assistant Dean appointments have been made in the Division of Natural Sciences, effective July 1, 2000. After providing excellent service in an interim capacity for the past year, Charlotte Moreno and Kathy Jefferds have agreed to become the permanent Assistant Deans. In what is a new structure for the Division of Natural Sciences, the Assistant Deans share responsibility for the areas of strategic/academic planning and development of divisional programs and activities. In addition, each Assistant Dean has primary responsibility for specific areas of divisional operations and program management while retaining familiarity with all areas of administration. This structure has proved very beneficial and is providing an effective infrastructure for me and for the Division. Kathy Jefferds holds the title of Assistant Dean for Planning, Finance and Operations. Primary areas of responsibility are divisional financial planning and resource administration, capital planning and facilities administration, purchasing, and administrative computing. Ms. Jefferds can be reached at ext. 9-4029 and kjefferds@natsci.ucsc.edu. Charlotte Moreno holds the title of Assistant Dean for Planning, Personnel and Programs. Key areas of responsibility are academic and staff personnel, research accounting, academic computing, management services, dean's office administration, curriculum-support programs and student outreach. Ms. Moreno can be reached at ext. 9-4438 and cmoreno@natsci.ucsc.edu.
