To: The Campus Community
From: Julia Armstrong-Zwart, Assistant Chancellor, Human Resources
The University proposes to replace the current Electronic Mail Policy and Business
and Finance Bulletin IS-6, Campus Communications Guidelines, with a new Electronic
Communications Policy.
The Electronic Communications Policy was developed based on the principles articulated
in the 1998 Electronic Mail Policy, translating the application of those principles
from electronic mail to other forms of electronic communications, including email,
web, telecommunications, radio and television. The policy further:
- defines circumstances under which the University may restrict or rescind electronic
communications resources;
- establishes the allowable uses of anonymity in electronic communications;
- requires compliance with existing University and campus policies regarding endorsements
in electronic communications;
- requires accessibility and accommodations for users with disabilities in compliance
with the law and existing University policies;
- and identifies when electronic communications records may be encrypted or unencrypted.
The text of the Electronic
Communications Policy, as well as a chart that compares current policy with the
proposed policy, are located online at: http://www.ucop.edu/ucophome/policies/ec/
Faculty comments should be directed to Barbara Brogan (bjbrogan@cats), and staff
comments directed to Willeen McQuitta(willeen@cats) by November 15, 2000.
Sincerely,
Julia Armstrong-Zwart, Assistant Chancellor
Human Resources
