April 24, 2001 To: UCSC Community From: Chancellor Greenwood Re: Death of music lecturer Smith Dobson Dear Colleagues: Some of you may already have received this very sad news, but I have just learned that UCSC lecturer Smith Dobson died last weekend from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Smith was a well-known and highly respected jazz pianist and instructor who touched the lives of countless UCSC students through our music program. He will be greatly missed. Please join me in conveying heartfelt sympathy to Smith's wife and children, his students, and his many friends.
