Re: Susie Miller and Pat Vani Assume Directorships

As many of you may know, Judith McCarrick, Assistant Dean University Extension and Summer Session retired this past October. Since that time, Susie Miller has been serving as acting director of Extension's English Language International Programs and Pat Vani has been serving as acting director of Summer Session.

I am pleased to formalize these appointments. As of the January 1, 2001, Susie Miller is Director of English Language International Programs and Pat Vani is Director of Summer Session.

Susie Miller joined UCSC Extension in October 1999 as Associate Director of English Language International Programs. Previously, Ms. Miller served as Director of the International Training and Education Center at UC Davis where she oversaw a budget of $4.2 million. During her time at Davis, Susie developed a new line of English for Special Purpose Programs and oversaw a worldwide marketing plan. Her extensive background in language, international programs, and marketing will be extremely valuable as UCSC Extension expands its international activities.

Pat Vani joined the Santa Cruz campus as Assistant Director of Summer Session, a position she has held since 1997. Ms. Vani has worked for the University of California since 1985, first as Conference Coordinator and Manager of the UCLA Malibu Conference Center at UCLA and later as Manager of Transportation and Parking at UC Berkeley. Ms. Vani has extensive experience developing and marketing educational services, programs, and events experience that will serve her well as Director of UCSC's Summer Session now and as we implement a state-supported program.

Please join me in congratulating Susie Miller and Pat Vani as they assume their additional responsibilities.
