Members of the campus community should expect lane closures and delays in the area of the Core West Parking Structure through August and September, while roadwork is taking place.

In particular, crews are repaving the Heller/McLaughlin intersection and upgrading shuttle stops in that area. The work is expected to continue until the end of August and include grinding the existing pavement, preparing the subgrade, repaving, restriping, and pouring concrete for the shuttle stops.

During the construction, traffic will be limited occasionally to a single lane with flagperson control, and the road surface will at times consist of compacted earth and baserock. People are asked to exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking through this area.

Work in the area also includes creating shuttle bus turnout areas on Steinhart Way near the parking structure and Physical Sciences Building and installing a sidewalk on Steinhart Way from the parking structure to Kerr Hall. Utility connections will also be made in McLaughlin Drive.

The parking structure is scheduled to open in January 2001.
