Astronomer Sandra Faber and postdoctoral researcher Susan Kassin were featured in coverage of the AEGIS galaxy survey on CBC Radio and in USA Today, Christian Science Monitor, Science News, UPI, Space Daily, SpaceRef, Space.com, Slashdot, Innovations Report, CCN Magazine, and Earthtimes.org. . . . Economist Lori Kletzer was interviewed by the New York Times about wage insurance. . . . The Korea Herald cited music professors Hi Kyung Kim and David Cope in an article about how Western composers are reviving Korean music by developing new repertoires for the "gayageum," an 1,800-year-old, 12-stringed, traditional Korean instrument. . . . The Chronicle of Higher Education picked up on a paper by psychology's Jean Fox Tree about the use of the word "like" in conversation. Rather than a bad habit, the word "like" is used "at particular times and for particular reasons" and can function as an integral part of conversation, according to Fox Tree, whose findings appeared in the journal Discourse Studies. . . . Research by biochemists William Scott and Michael Robertson on the structure of an RNA enzyme was covered by Science Daily, Biology News Net, PhysOrg.com, Chemistry World, Astrobiology News, and Space Ref. . . . An article about supercomputers on CNN.com included quotes from Joel Primack, professor of physics. . . . IEEE Spectrum magazine ran a story about astronomer Gregory Laughlin's project to involve amateur astronomers in the hunt for new planets.

Associate professor of literature Louis Chude-Sokei contributed an article to the editorial pages of the Los Angeles Times about the recent controversy over the racial identity of Barack Obama. . . . Geologist Gary Griggs was quoted in an article in the San Jose Mercury News about plans for a seawall in the Pleasure Point area. . . . The San Luis Obispo Tribune covered a Women's History Month celebration keynote address by history of consciousness professor Angela Davis at Cal Poly, where she spoke of the need for collaborative community approaches to solving issues such as violence against women. . . . The Ventura County Star and Santa Cruz Sentinel ran articles about alumnus Wayne Horvitz, noting that the individual major he created at UCSC, “Composition for New Music Improvisation,” is an apt description of his professional career. . . . The San Francisco Chronicle announced the new Shakespeare Santa Cruz summer season, quoting artistic director and professor of theater arts Paul Whitworth.

Computer engineer Jose Renau was quoted in a Santa Cruz Sentinel story about the Sun OpenSPARC Center of Excellence at UCSC. . . . Astronomer Greg Laughlin was interviewed on KUSP Radio's Talk of the Bay program about his research on extrasolar planets, and was also interviewed by a TV crew from the syndicated program Discoveries & Breakthroughs Inside Science. . . . Computer scientist Arthur Keller and graduate student John Connors were featured in a Santa Cruz Sentinel story about a campus symposium on electric vehicles. . . . Biologist Tim Tinker was quoted in a Monterey County Weekly story about California sea otters. . . .
