Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
In response to the devastating hurricane that
killed thousands and left many more homeless, Chancellor Denice
Denton has encouraged members
of the campus community to do what they can to provide support to
the devasted region and its people
(see message).
If you wish to share information
about a campus event or activity designed to support Katrina relief efforts,
please contact a representative of
UCSC's Katrina Committee.

How you can help
A large number of relief organizations are rushing emergency supplies to the devastated Gulf Coast region. Here are the agencies and organizations listed in Chancellor Denton's message.
UCSC people respond
Food services worker Bruce Holgers was on the scene as a Red Cross volunteer... UCSC faculty were quoted by news media seeking expert commentary on various aspects of the disaster... Community Studies is offering
field-study internships to students who can help with
relief efforts... and more. [More]

Other news & information
UCSC is offering support to research colleagues, including an alumnus
and students, from University of New Orleans.
UCSC is one of many campuses providing assistance to students who planned but are now unable to attend college in the Gulf Coast region. As of September 14, UCSC had extended offers of admission to 25 students from the devasted area.
If you purchase a brunch at a UCSC cafeteria on October 15, $2 of the cost
can be donated to relief efforts.
As you make a purchase at the Bay Tree Bookstore, you can make a donation to the American Red Cross' Katrina relief efforts.
