Center for Integrated Marine Technologies is being established at UCSC,
thanks to a $2 million grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration. "Our goal is to develop an integrated view of these
highly productive coastal ecosystems, using the Monterey Bay sanctuary
as kind of a big laboratory," said Gary Griggs of UCSC's Institute
