'60s benefactor: Merrill College 'a force for hope'

Charles E. Merrill Jr.

"Of all our different investments, Merrill College was the most appealing and rewarding," Charles E. Merrill Jr. said at an April 26 visit to the college he helped make possible. Merrill was chairman of the board of the Charles E. Merrill Trust, which donated the funds in the 1968-69 academic year to create Merrill College. Merrill has devoted his life to educational reform, founding and serving as headmaster of the innovative Commonwealth School in Boston. More
