2003 Shakespeare Santa Cruz 22nd Season
Special Group Invitation for Staff & Faculty & Families
August 8th at 8pm, Festival Glen, Comedy of Errors,
Directed by William D. Partlan. Two sets of twin brothers separated by a shipwreck
in their infancy. Years later, Antipholus and his servant Dromio land in a
seaport town. Unbeknownst to them, their long-lost twin brothers reside in
this very same town. Confusion, chaos and comedy multiply as spouses, creditors,
friends and foes alike instantly mistake the brothers' identities.
August 15th at 8pm, Festival Glen, Hamlet,
SSC Artistic Director Risa Brainin. Shakespeare's greatest tragedy commandeers
the Festival Glen this season. A loyal son returns home from university for
the funeral of his father, and soon discovers his mother is engaged to his
uncle. On the heels of this hasty marriage, Hamlet encounters his father's
ghost. When the apparition reveals to Hamlet that he was murdered, Hamlet's
entire world is thrown into question. He is forced to navigate within the
treacherous political world of his royal family to confirm the truth and seek
revenge.
August 22nd at 8pm, Theater Arts Mainstage, Private Lives,
Directed by Kent Gash. Noel Coward's stylish and hilarious look at marriage,
divorce and everything in between. After their divorce, Amanda and Elyot thought
they had seen the last of each other. In an uncanny coincidence five years
later, they are honeymooning with their new spouses Victor and Sibyl on the
same weekend in the same hotel. As they strive for wedded bliss, a chance
encounter throws the honeymooners into madness.
Playgoers are encouraged to bring blankets, cushions, or low-back
and short legged beach chairs for use in the Festival Glen. A limited number
of beach chairs are available for rent for $1 each. The Festival Glen opens
one hour before the play begins. Bundle-up for the evening performances. You
