Why certain sea lions are vulnerable to changes in food supply

A photo of a deep-diving sea lionResearchers think they have discovered why certain species of marine mammals, including the deep-diving Australian sea lion, seem particularly vulnerable to changes in their food supply: The mammals work so hard searching for food that their ability to increase the duration of their dives is limited. As a result, they may be unable to cope with food shortages or other environmental stresses. MORE
