Appointments
Ilse Kolbus
After serving as interim director of Physical Plant for the past year, Ilse Kolbus was appointed to the position of permanent director as of January 9. Prior to taking the position of interim director, Kolbus had served as director of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) since 1991.
During her tenure on campus, Kolbus has "proactively directed environmental health and safety programs and provided her expertise, leadership, and advice throughout the campus," said Tom Vani, vice chancellor for Business and Administrative Services, in announcing the appointment. "Ilse has brought these excellent qualities and skills to the role of overseeing the Physical Plant, which is a key management position of one of the largest units on campus."
Buddy Morris
Buddy Morris, who has served as acting director of Environmental Health &
Safety since May 2001, has been promoted to the position of EH&S director. Morris
was hired as the campus's first industrial hygienist in January 1990.
In 1991, he served as acting EH&S director for six months until Ilse Kolbus was
hired as director. Before coming to UCSC, Morris worked for 10 years in the Environmental
Health & Safety Office at the University of Hawaii.
The EH&S unit reports to Physical Plant director Ilse Kolbus.
