Appointments
UC College Prep Initiative--a new program which provides
online college preparatory courses to high school students throughout California
and is funded by UCOP and the governor's AP Challenge Grant Initiative (SB 1689)--has
announced three recent appointments.
Rafael Granados is the associate director of curriculum and development. Granados
has a B.A. in computer and information sciences and economics and an M.A. in education
from UC Santa Cruz. He is currently finishing his doctoral degree in science, mathematics,
and technology education from UC Berkeley. Granados is evaluating the content of
online Advanced Placement courses and developing the standards to be used for the
creation of new courses to be offered through UCCP.
Karen Turinia is the assistant to the UCCP director
and the office manager. Turinia was the assistant to the vice chancellor for Student
Affairs for the past six years and has worked on the UCSC campus for twelve years.
Leslie Geary holds a temporary appointment as publications and special projects
coordinator. She is also a resident preceptor at College Eight. Geary previously
worked in the UCSC Office of Financial Aid for four years as publications coordinator
and scholarship adviser.
